Deadpool 2 is a fantastic sequel to a great superhero origin movie. As with most superhero sequels, the movie doesn't spend time telling the hero's tragic backstory and the film takes advantage of this by dropping us right where we last left off from the first film. The pacing is improved significantly compared to the first movie. Instead of a slow build-up like there was in the first movie, the second movie sets up for a much smoother ride throughout. This allows returning characters and some newcomers a fair amount of time to develop and give us some solid banter.
Characters are one of the biggest strengths of this movie because of their interactions between each other. New characters, such as Cable and Domino, feel like a natural fit to the Deadpool movie universe. Josh Brolin, in his second big superhero blockbuster of the summer, plays the straight man to Ryan Reynolds' wise-cracking Deadpool (aka Wade Wilson) and it works. Some of the back-and-forth banter between the two are some of the more memorable parts of the movie. Cable and Deadpool's interactions were also a high point as they were a lot similar to what long-time comic fans have come to know and love. Cable's motives make him a likable character that you should be able to relate to. His powers are significantly toned down from his comic book counterpart, however, this isn't to say that they aren't impressive. Cable's biggest contributions come in his fight scenes where he ends up wrecking almost anyone who gets in his way.
A big addition to the cast came in the form of Domino (Zazie Beets). She is a mutant, much like the rest of the cast, with her power being luck manipulation. Basically, she is extremely lucky; if you've seen the trailers for Deadpool 2, it prompts Wade to argue with her over whether or not this is actually a superpower. It leads to some funny conversations that steal the show and will have you cracking up in the theater. Zazie Beets does a great job of delivering the jokes while still being a badass that delivers some beatdowns to the bad guys. It will be interesting to see where she shows up next as well.
The cameos and references come a mile a minute. Without spoiling some of the bigger cameos in the movie, just know you will need to keep your eyes open to catch all of them because there are some really good ones lurking throughout the movie. The references and callbacks to other films that this movie makes are spot on and will have you laughing throughout the whole film!
Speaking comedy, what kind of Deadpool 2 review would this be if I didn't mention it? Reynolds and the rest of the cast have some of the funniest jokes and references found in any superhero movie to date. I honestly can't remember the last time I laughed so hard during a superhero movie with the exception of the first Deadpool. This sequel takes what has already been established as funny from the first movie and continues to knock it out of the park! The writers really gave a maximum effort with this one. What's really amazing about this is that almost every character gets a chance to be funny, heck, even the cab driver from the first movie gets his moment to finally shine!
A final strength of the movie is the post-credit scenes. Ever since Nick Fury showed up talking about the Avengers at the end of the first Iron Man it seems like every superhero movie has to have some kind of after-credit surprise. Much to the anger of theater cleaners everywhere, Deadpool 2 doesn't break this trend and, in fact, delivers one of the best post-credit scenes of all-time! Without revealing anything let's just say there are some nice callbacks and fourth wall shattering moments you definitely need to stick around for.
Now before I accidentally spoil the movie, let me leave you with this: Deadpool 2 is an excellent superhero comedy/action flick that is well worth your time. It takes what was great about the first movie and really improves on the formula by adding in new characters and more jokes to keep the party going. If you were a big fan of the first movie, or you're a big fan of the comics like I am, I highly recommend this movie. To be fair, however, if you're not a fan of superhero movies, raunchy comedies, or gross special effects, you might not like this movie. For everyone else, though I would say go see this movie, but please leave your kids at home because the f-bombs get dropped like crazy and some of the fight scenes get a little gory. Deadpool once again sticks the superhero landing and makes a fantastic movie.

It's amazing to think that a few years ago we almost didn't get a proper Deadpool movie. Heck, the studio didn't even consider making the first movie until the test footage was leaked and the internet collectively lost its mind. Now here we are, two movies into the franchise with ongoing talks of future films to come and things are looking promising! With that being said let's get down to what you all came for, the spoiler-free review of Deadpool 2!
